Safe Drinking Water
In Britain we rarely think about the energy used to create safe drinking water. Although drinking water in the UK comes from good quality surface and ground water it must still be treated before it is safe to drink. Treating water greatly increases the amount of energy used to produce every drop of drinking water in the UK, making it even more important to think about conserving the water we use.
In the UK we have the DWI to control the quality of our drinking water, their job is to check that the water companies in England and Wales supply water that is safe to drink by testing samples. They check for any unwanted bacteria, chemicals, metals such as lead and of course the way the water looks and tastes.
