Hope in the Developing World
Water is used in many ways in schools, from flushing loos and drinking water, to washing paint brushes, hands and watering the school garden. Schools in England spend about £61 million on water every year. A well managed school can almost half its annual water bill leading to very real savings. - Bring a water bottle to school to avoid using a drinking fountain, which can use more water than the person drinks.
- Install 'Hippo's', Cistern bag, or other water saving devices into the toilets,
- When washing, advise children to not let the water run while soaping up their hands,
- Alert the school caretaker to any leaks from taps or pipes, or install a leak alarm,
- Create posters that teach children how to conserve water and display them in your school,
- And teach children why it is important to conserve water and how to conserve water.
